Worship Teams at Waverley Abbey and St Peter’s

Our Vision We want to: work in partnership share ideas in creating uplifting and meaningful assemblies and worship for our schools develop our faith and develop our relationship with God and find ways to involve our whole school in this spread the word of God look for ways we can work together to achieve this pray for each other visit each other’s schools lead assemblies in each other’s schools support each other in overcoming challenges visit each other’s church share assembly ideas learn and sing songs together share a ‘virtual’ assembly start a diary of events and share with each other

Lunch at the cathedral – getting to know each other.

A tour of the cathedral

Our shared collective worship session led by Jane.

Monday 26 th Jan 2015 Liked: Christian singing worship CD as children walked in. The band playing the hymn: give me oil in my lamp. Children participated in the assembly – hung leaves with their suggestions onto the ‘giving tree’. The Worship display in the hall. Every class had a worship table. Lots of items on the worship tables to touch (pebbles, shells etc) Every display had a Bible verse displayed next to it in a consistent format. Our behaviour as the children walked in. The Bible was read from. Staff reflection once a month at 8.10am EBI: Not everyone’s worship table was as obvious Use adults to participate in the assembly as volunteers/answer questions We forgot to light the candles! Waverley Abbey observe St Peter’s assembly led by HT and a tour to identify what makes our school distinctly Church of England.

Monday 2 nd February 2015 St Peter’s observe Waverley Abbey’s assembly led by HT and a tour to identify what makes our school distinctly Church of England. Liked: Christian instrumental CD when entering assembly Behaviour during assembly. Musicians play during song. Questions are given to the school to think about whilst the volunteers are busy. The quality of the singing. Leader says ‘ Peace be with you’ and children respond ‘and also with you’ Bible readings are clear on the screen. The humorous parts from the leader – funny but serious message. EBI: Some class teachers to make their RE displays more prominent.

Class Worship St Peter’s visit Waverley Abbey 12 th March Liked: Using a video clip as the input – Esther cartoon Great links to our lives today Almost all children had a chance to talk Candle lit They have lots of posters and pictures in the corridors outside their classrooms which link to the theme The children were focussed EBI: Make the cross more visible – maybe above the board in the direction everyone was facing.

Class Worship Waverley Abbey visit St Peter’s 19 th March Liked: The children led the session – read the scripture, asked rhetorical questions and acted. Lights were off, candles, peaceful. The children were asked during the coming days to add a prayer, linked to the theme, to the prayer table. This is then later stuck in their Spiritual Journals. The cross was visible EBI: Have a focus question each week that links to your theme.

Further work: Children to lead a whole school worship in their own class, evaluate it and then present in partner school. Shared RE lesson observations at St Peter’s with Kate and Sarah DHT/RE leader with feedback – (complete) Planned: survey monkey all stakeholders on their views of worship in our schools – in the process Planned: observe class worship sessions in pairs – (complete) St Peter’s teachers to observe RE lessons at Waverley Abbey following their outstanding grade at SIAMS ‘Flock’ project
