What the Research Says  Use low stakes writing assignments- Incorporate writing into shorter, simple tasks of recording the thinking of the student  Provide multiple forms of feedback- peer responses, whole class discussions, student self reflection, and brief one on one conferences  Incorporate writing for real purposes  Use a variety of quality mentor texts as models for desirable “writing moves”  Teach transference of skills from one type of writing to another  Use rubrics, both simple and complex
