Manifest Destiny—It held that the U.S. was blessed by God and destined to overspread the North American continent and expand its boundaries to the Pacific Ocean.

Utah—Joseph Smith was the founder & had the vision for the Mormons. Who went? The Mormons led by Brigham Young Why did they go there? To escape religious persecution How did they get there? By using the Missouri River & Mormon Trail What did they find when they got there? The Great Salt Lake

Oregon Who went? Settlers who were lured by reports of abundant, fertile farm land. Why did they go there? To start new lives How did they get there? By using the Oregon Trail What did they find when they got there? Hard work

Texas Who went? Stephen F. Austin and the “Old 300” Why did they go there? Were guaranteed a very large unit of land How did they get there? By using the Santa Fe Trail What did they find when they got there?
