This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement n° The Sci-GaIA project and its education-related activities Roberto Barbera (UNICT) 20 May 2015 – Lisbon – EGI Conference 2015
Outline 2 The Sci-GaIA project General information Topics Partners Objectives Workplan Education-related tools and activities
General information 3 Project type: CSA Call: H2020-INFRASUPP Topic: INFRASUPP Duration: 24 months Start: 1 st of May 2015 Budget: ~ 1.4 MEuro
Topics 4 e-Infrastructure services: Standards-based access to computational and data resources Integration of gateways with standards-compliant open-access publications and data Teaching and Training: Updated training material Develop online and face-to-face user fora Communities of practice: Identify and train new communities of practice Provide relevant services to emerging and mature communities of practice
Partners 5 1.Brunel University (UK) – Coordinator 2.Sigma Orionis (France) 3.Ubuntunet Alliance (Malawi) 4.University of Catania (Italy) 5.West & Central African Research and Education Network (Ghana) 6.Royal Institute of Technology (Sweden) 7.Karolinksa Institutet (Sweden) 8.Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology (Tanzania) 9.CSIR Meraka Institute (South Africa)
Objectives 6 To promote the uptake of Science Gateways and e Infrastructures in Africa and beyond To support new and already emerging Communities of Practice To strengthen and expand e-Infrastructure and Science Gateway related services To train, disseminate, communicate and outreach
Workplan 7 WP1 - Promote the uptake of Science Gateways and e- Infrastructures in Africa and beyond WP2 - Support new and emerging communities of practice WP3 - Strengthen and expand Science Gateway and e- Infrastructure related services WP4 - Training, Dissemination, Communication and Outreach WP5 - Coordination and management
Tools 8 Planned to be: Open Based on state-of-the-art technologies Already widely used Fully integrable in the web environment of the project (smooth user experience) and brandable with the coordinated image of the project (same «look & feel») Allowing precise accounting of what’s been done by the project within its lifetime Sustainable after the end of the project Re-usable in other contexts
Legenda and some more considerations 9 ToolConsumer Provider Providers and Tools should have a much wider scope than Sci-GaIA, both in term of size and lifetime The main Consumer in the next 2 years will be the Sci-GaIA website but it should be easily replaceable by other contexts after the end of the project In such a way Providers and Tools will become legacies of a long term EU-Africa collaboration and will survive specific projects Link Feed
10 T1.1 Create Science Gateway and e-Infrastructure development guidelines and materials for NRENs and Communities of Practice Task e-Infrastructure Development Guide This Subtask will develop guides to help NRENs in the creation and deployment of services such as Grid and Cloud sites, Certificate Authorities, Identity Federations, Open Access Document and Data Repositories and support for Science Gateway hosting. Guidelines to implement policies compliant with those of international entities such as IGTF, eduGAIN, OAI, OpenDOAR, and OpenAIRE will also be provided Task Science Gateway Development Guide for Communities of Practice Building on the above, this Subtask will develop guides to help CoPs create their own Science Gateways that use the facilities of deployed e-Infrastructures: How to create a Science Gateway hosting framework How to integrate scientific applications (software/data/sensors) in Science Gateways to reuse (some of) the scientific applications already integrated in Science Gateways
