Use of a Peer Notetaker Accommodation If you receive “Use of a Peer Notetaker” as an accommodation this tutorial will show you how to implement that accommodation

How to use your Peer Notetaker Accommodation Step 1 – Meet and work with instructors Details next …

Step 1 – Meet and work with instructors To initiate accommodation and identify a Notetaker Make an appointment with your instructors (or meet during their office hours) to discuss details for using your accommodations in their courses. You initiate the accommodation Let your instructor know that you would like to use the Peer Notetaker accommodation. If you have more than one option for note-taking assistance, let your instructor know that this is your preferred option for the class. Instructor recruits notetaker If you will be using the method of peer notetaker, ask your instructor to identify a notetaker. If the instructor is not familiar with recruiting volunteer notetakers, refer them to the guide for faculty on our website (link given on notification letter). They are also welcome to contact your access advisor. You get the name of the notetaker from the instructor After identifying a volunteer notetaker, the instructor gives the volunteer’s name and paw print to you.

Step 2 – Provide Notetaker’s name to Disability Center Once your instructor gives you the name and paw print for the notetaker, you provide that information to our office. Provide notetaker info to us Fill out the Who is Your Notetaker? form on our website under the forms section: Disability Center contacts the notetaker We will take it from there! We contact the notetaker and go over information about the notetaker program and how to upload their notes into myAccess.

Step 3 – Viewing and Downloading Notes Each time your notetaker uploads notes to the system, you will receive an to your Mizzou account. To obtain your notes: Log into myAccess On the left hand menu under “My Accommodations,” click on “Notetaking Assistance” o This takes you to your courses that have notetakers o You will see which class notes are available for Click on “Available Note(s) for Download” Notetakers Name

After clicking on “Available notes for download,” the link for downloading will appear Click on the link: “Download Note” The PDF or Word document can then be saved or printed for your use Step 3 – Viewing and Downloading Notes (cont.) Notetakers Name

Peer notetaker Questions & Answers Q: What do I do if my professor tells me that there is already a notetaker identified for the course? A: When you fill out our online notetaker form with your name and class information (Step 2), just type a note in the Comments Box to let us know - such as “Prof said there is already a notetaker.” Then we will connect your access to the uploaded course notes.

Peer notetaker Questions & Answers Q: Can I identify my own peer notetaker? A: Yes, absolutely. If you happen to know a student in the class, please feel free to ask them if they might be interested in serving as a notetaker. If they are, be sure to provide us their information via the form on our website so that we can give them details about signing up and responsibilities as a notetaker, in addition to how to receive our token of thanks at the end of semester.

Peer notetaker Questions & Answers Q: What if I ask the professor and the second week of class goes by and I don’t have a notetaker. What do I do? A: Approach your professor again to see if he or she has the name of the notetaker. If not, ask that a second announcement be made to request a volunteer. If, after the second announcement, you still do not have a notetaker, contact your Access Advisor or Coordinator in the Disability Center for assistance.

Peer notetaker Questions & Answers Q: How long will the notes be available? A: The notes will be available in our myAccess system until the end of the current semester. If you would like to have the notes longer, you can save a copy of them for yourself.

Peer notetaker Questions & Answers Q: What if I receive s about notes for a class that I have dropped? A: If you receive an notification for a course where you don’t need notes, let the Disability Center know and we will remove you from that list.

At the end of the semester, the office will send out Notetaker Evaluation forms for you to give feedback on your volunteer notetakers. If you have any issues or questions regarding notes, please contact our office so we can assist you as quickly as possible. You can reach the Disability Center by or by phone (573) We are happy to help!
