BOOK TRAILERS®

DEFINITION “A visual representation of a book. In one way book trailers ® are similar to a movie trailer; they are designed to interest a reader in a particular book." Chance and Lesesne (2012) Term copyrighted by Sheila Clover in 2002.

To attract readers to a book and its author so that they will purchase the book and/or go to websites for more information. MAIN PURPOSE

In an increasingly digital world people are primed to consuming video. The number of global Internet users is getting higher and higher. The higher the percentage of Internet users, the larger the audience for online videos. WHY A BOOK TRAILER®?

An effective and engaging book promotion strategy. Boosts a marketing campaign. A wide global audience can be reached. Attracts visually-oriented readers. Maximizes distribution via the Internet. PROS

Enhances the writer’s online identity. Increases the writer’s credibility. Forges more connections with the reader. Cost-effective (eternal as long as it remains online, continuously introducing new readers to an author’s work). Easy to consume and share.

Allows the author’s loyal fans to get a sneak- peek into the story before the book is released. People drifted away from reading by the excitement of visual entertainment can gain interest in reading. However, a bad trailer® is worse than no trailer.
