PB20403 PSIKOLOGI SILANG BUDAYA/ CROSS-CULTURE PSYCHOLOGY WEEK 1: Course Introduction

Introduction Rational of the course: To enhance the awareness amongst students on human behaviours in various cultural background/setting.

Synopsis This course introduces students to Cross-culture Psychology as a sub-discipline in psychology that emerges from an awareness of limitations of knowledge on universal human behaviour. Methodology issues and generalizability of findings of previous research and theories of mainstream psychology will be discuss throughout the 14 weeks of lecture.

Learning outcomes To be able to explain the concepts of culture, and psychological processes involved in human beings. To identify differences in cross-cultural psychology and cultural psychology To prepare a research proposal carried out on a cross-cultural study. To develop teamwork skills and spirit whilst carrying out course assignments

Individual participation (10%) Individual participation will be assessed from the online quizzes and forums. Students will be informed about the availability of the online forums and quizzes.

Group assignment I (20%) In a group of 3 persons (from the same tutorial class), you are expected to write a research proposal in any area of psychology using a cross-cultural approach. Cite at least 10 downloadable articles from UMS Library’s website for literature review on proposed research topic. The proposal should be between pages ; typed using Times New Roman font size 12, and double- spaced Submit on Week 10 or no later than 17 th November, 2015

Group Assignment 2 (10%) Based on the group formed earlier, present an assigned topic (TBC). Topic will be given 2 weeks or earlier prior to the presentation date. Presentation shall not relying on any electronic devices, e.g. computer, to facilitate the presentation. Please think of other techniques and be as creative as possible in the presentation. Presentation should not exceeding 15 minutes, let 5 minutes for the Q and A. Timetable for the presentation will be ready once registration for the group membership is closed.

Exam Mid-semester exam will in Week 8 (3 rd. November, 2015) covers week 1-week7. Mid-semester exam will be in an opened-book form and in essay format. Final exam will cover from lessons from Week 8 until Week 14 (format : TBC)
