Finland tops the league of forest-clad countries with an amazing 73% forest cover. Sweden, Slovenia, Latvia and Estonia all exceed 50% forest cover. The UK’s other nearest neighbours have close to three times its forest cover: France (29%) and Germany (32%).

Trillemarka Nature Reserve was created on 5 December It’s in central part of eastern Norway, on the border between Sigdal and Numedal valleys, you can find the last of the last big wilderness forest areas of Norway. 205 km 2 continuous mountain old growth forests, with the last fairly intact extensive valley, named Trillemarka. The area is situated 100 km west of the capital Oslo. Trillemarka Nature Reserve lets visitors move freely in the area of the forest.

The Crooked Forest is a grove of oddly-shaped pine trees located outside Nowe Czarnowo, West Pomerania, Poland. It consists of around 400 pine trees that grow with a 90-degree bend at their base, the vast majority of which are bent northward. Curiously, the Crooked Forest is enveloped by a larger forest of straight growing pine trees. It is estimated that the trees were planted in the 1930s and that they were around 7-10 years old when they experienced whatever force or damage that resulted in trunk curvature. No one knows what caused them grow this way.

Hoia-Baciu Forest is the most haunted forest in the world. It is situated near Cluj-Napoca, Romania covers an area of over 250 hectares and is often referred to as the Bermuda Triangle of the country. It has a reputation for intense paranormal activity and unexplained events. Reports have included, ghost sightings, unexplained apparitions, faces appearing in photographs that were not visible with the naked eye, and in the 1970s, UFO sightings were reported.

The Białowieża Forest World Heritage site, on the border between Poland and Belarus, is an immense range of primary forest including both conifers and broadleaved trees covering a total area of 141,885 hectares. It was created in Situated on the watershed of the Baltic Sea and Black Sea, this transboundary property is exceptional for the opportunities it offers for biodiversity conservation. It is home to the largest population of the property’s iconic species, the European bison.

European bison – the biggest European land mammal – is the symbol of the Park. Białowieża Forest became last mainstay for the lowland European bison. The process of its reinstatement, bringing it back to nature started right there. At present, Białowieża Forest comprises the largest free-living population of European bison in the world. There are approximately 500 European bison living in the Polish part of Białowieża Forest.
