Yukon By: Shane..Great River

Location  The Yukon is a territory in the west of Canada on the continent of North America.  The Northwest Territories are east of the Yukon Fireweed Yukon’s flower

History  The first people to live in the Yukon were the : Gwichin, Han, Tutchone, Tagish, Tlingit, Kasha, Teslin,and inunialuit.  The name ‘Yukon’ comes from a native word ‘Yu-kun-ah’ meaning “Great River.”

Whitehorse Whitehorse is the capital of the Yukon. Whitehorse is in the southern part of the Yukon. Whitehorse is beside the Yukon River.

Waterways The Yukon has six main waterways. These rivers are: the Klondike River, Peel River, Pelly River, Stewart River, Porcupine River and the Yukon River.

Parklands The Yukon has 3 National Parks: Vuntut, Kluane and Ivvavik. Kluane park has Mount Logan.

Fast Facts Mount Logan is the biggest mountain in Canada. The Yukon is the smallest territory in Canada. Whitehorse has an airport. Yukon’s bird is the common raven. Yukon’s flower is the fireweed.
