1.FAMILY 2.PEER GROUP 3.SCHOOL 4.MASS MEDIA 5.RESOCIALIZATION

Think back to 9 th grade. Did you have to adapt to high school? What were the differences between high school and middle school?

What is re-socialization? The process of people adopting new norms, values, attitudes, and behaviors. The re-socialization process becomes internalized and then becomes a part of the individuals identity.

How does Re-socialization take place? Before someone is re-socialized they go through a process called: De-socialization. De-socialization is when the individuals give up their old norms, and behaviors. They loose their identity.

Where does re-socialization take place? De-socialization and re-socialization take place in total institutions. Total institutions are places that a separated from the rest of society and controlled by officials in charge.

Can re-socialization be voluntary?

How is it accomplished if its voluntary? Rewards are put in place such as: Extra food, special responsibilities, privacy etc. If an individual is not following the “new norms” they will receive punishment: Loss of privileges, physical punishment, and isolation.

What does this show you?
