The year ahead

Support 2009/2010 Support will be available for individual teachers, groups of teachers and whole staffs in the implementation of the Primary School Curriculum and in developing/reviewing organisational policies or procedures. Planning Day: Schools may, with Board of Management approval, close for one day during the 2009/2010 school year, for planning purposes. PPDS advisors may be available to support schools on that day.

Support 2009/2010 In-class modelling is an integral feature of the in- class support offered by the PPDS. Modelling comprises a series of stages that include dialogue with teachers before and after the modelled session. Support will be targeted at a specific need identified by the school. After schools workshops and courses can be provided either in school or in an Education Centre, in collaboration and co-operation with the Education Centre.

Support 2009/2010 Teacher Professional Communities may be established in response to requests to support teachers who share an interest in a particular curricular area or who share a common challenge. The PPDS website at will continue to be expanded during 2009/2010.

Curriculum development Support offered will include in-class modelling and mentoring, review and development of whole school and class planning in this area and advice on management of resources and the use of ICT to support teaching and learning. Support to DEIS schools The members of the DEIS team will provide support in literacy and numeracy to DEIS band 1 and 2 schools and will also review progress of the three-year DEIS plan If DEIS schools require additional curricular (outside of literacy and numeracy) support or support in organisational topics, this will be allocated by the regional co-ordinators. Rural DEIS schools will continue to be supported in literacy and numeracy by advisors with expertise in English, Maths and Learning Support

Gaeilge Tús Maith Schools who have applied for support in Gaeilge Tús Maith and have not been supported to date will be allocated to GTM advisors first. Advisors will be allocated to schools who have received support in GTM according to the level of support received and the needs of the region Support in other curricular areas and organisational topics for schools receiving GTM support will be allocated by the regional co- ordinator
