Prepositions may serve as other parts of speech as well; many work as adverbs or adjectives. So, how can we tell if it’s a preposition? Look at the FUNCTION that the word serves. If it demonstrates a relationship (time/place) between a subject and object of the sentence OR two objects …then it is a preposition!
