SWBAT: Find the area of a trapezoid and a rhombus.
Using two 3 x 5 note cards, cut along a line from one vertex to the opposite side. Discard the two triangles that you cut off. What new shapes did you create? How do they compare? Label the height and the two bases of the trapezoids. Put the two edges labeled height together. What new shape is created? How does the area of one trapezoid compare to the area of the parallelogram?
Where base and height are perpendicular! Examples: 1)2)
3) Find the height of a trapezoid that has an area of 50 square yards and bases of 8 yards and 12 yards.
For the shape below, how can we find the area using triangles? h1h1 h2h2 A D C B If the diagonals of a quadrilateral are perpendicular, the area is one half the product of the diagonals.
4) Find the area.5) A rhombus with a 20 cm diagonal has an area of 300 sq cm. Find the perimeter of the rhombus.
