Project funding is political, it’s important to have friends in high places Only big companies can afford to participate Wrong: project selection is evaluated against strict criteria and it’s very competitive It takes a long time from project idea to project results True: compared with normal business timescales, EU funding operate on a longer timescale Wrong: there are many opportunities for SMEs to lead or join consortia and through special “SME friendly” instruments Ambitious research matters much more than business outcomes Wrong: business impact and exploitation are critical and activities closer to market will receive greater emphasis in H2020
