SOME (A GRADE): WILL BE ABLE TO ASSESS HOW MUCH RESPONSIBILITY CHRISTIANS SHOULD TAKE IN LOOKING AFTER THE ENVIRONMENT AND REASONS THEY MAY GIVE FOR AND AGAINST THIS LO: To explore the concept of stewardship and religious teachings relating to environmental issues Why do Christians think it is important to care for the environment? God created the universe. Stewardship – God gave people the responsibility of looking after the planet. Dominion – God gave humans dominion – authority and control over creation but not domination so we need to look after the world. Christianity has always taught that people should only take from the world what they need and that they should not be concerned with material wealth. Worship – the natural world is God’s work and we should celebrate it and enjoy it (harvest festival) When people are judged they will be asked to account for how well they have looked after this gift. Everything created belongs to God, not humans.

ALL (E GRADE): WILL BE ABLE TO DEFINE AND DESCRIBE WHAT ‘STEWARDSHIP’ AND ‘DOMINION’ IS MOST (C GRADE): WILL BE ABLE TO EXPLAIN THE CONCEPT OF STEWARDSHIP, AND THE WAY SOME CHRISTIANS RESPOND TO ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES. SOME (A GRADE): WILL BE ABLE TO ASSESS HOW MUCH RESPONSIBILITY CHRISTIANS SHOULD TAKE IN LOOKING AFTER THE ENVIRONMENT AND REASONS THEY MAY GIVE FOR AND AGAINST THIS LO: To explore the concept of stewardship and religious teachings relating to environmental issues Why do Christians think it is not important to care for the environment? The environment is not a living thing, it has no soul so no special relationship with God. God gave Christians dominion so they are in control of the world. Christians should not be concerned with politics e.g. saving the environment and lowering their carbon footprint Christians may believe that what is happening to the world is part of God’s plan Christians may believe that they will look after their own environment but it not their responsibility to look after the environment of others A Christian may follow their own conscience and has the free will to make their own decision. They may also be influenced by other things.
