Education for intercultural citizenship in the Euro- Mediterranean region Alexandria Annual Education Convention

The Anna Lindh Foundation plans to focus on the concept of “Education for Intercultural Citizenship in the Euromed region”. The Swedish Institute Alexandria focuses on dialogue for democracy, human rights and gender equality. A joint annual convention seeks to build on the existing practices and tools developed; to create dialogue, experience sharing and exchange of ideas on the usage, implementation and dissemination of these tools parallel to training of “multipliers” in the fields.

Promote and raise the awareness of universal values of human rights, democracy and the rights and responsibilities of citizens Increased democratic attitudes, skills, participation and intercultural citizenship within the Euro-Med societies Increase and promote a pluralistic understanding and approach in the formal and informal education in the Euro-Med region The overall objectives of the annual conventions are to:

Theme: Education for intercultural citizenship in the Euro-Mediterranean region globalism and intercultural citizenship: raising awareness on universal human rights, local civil and political rights and responsibilities and encourage participation, solidarity and cooperation global education and the role of new media in intercultural dialogue

The responsibility of the state (policy makers and decision-makers), civil society representatives, community leaders, youth leaders and educators. Intercultural education and religious diversity; The“instrumentalization” of religion. Dialogue and knowledge sharing on a regional level or local level between civil society, policy makers and religious community leaders, youth leaders etc.

The first Alexandria Annual Education Convention would see the participation of three main groups of participants: a)teachers and experts in the field of pedagogy b)youth leaders and educators in the informal sector c)decision makers and representatives of institutions working to promote intercultural learning.
