AMP Ag Fair Dates: OCTOBER 5 – 6, 2012

 It’s purpose is to be an agriculture literacy experience for students, parents, patrons of NEISD, and the Bexar County community.  The following aspects will be included in the 2012 AMP Ag Fair:  Elementary Farm Tours (week of Ag Fair)  Horticulture Exposition including a fall plant sale  Veterinary Technology Exposition including a Pet Vaccination clinic  Agriculture Mechanics Project Exhibition including restored tractors  Environmental Systems Exhibition with Wildlife Challenge  Fall Challenge Livestock Show for novice feeders

 Experience agriculture under supervision  Allows the application of knowledge and skills learned in the classroom  Develop a student that is a literate agriculture producer and consumer  Actively engages the student in production agriculture through entrepreneurship

Junior Varsity  1 st year feeder (Novice)  Destination is the “Fall Challenge” at the AMP Ag Fair  Commercial quality feed and animal  Pathway to the Varsity Level for your 2 nd year Feeding

Junior Varsity livestock feeders scoring 40 + points and only showing in the “Fall Challenge” 2. Novice feeders that have not fed livestock (1 st time feeders) 3. Proficient feeders showing at the Varsity level 4. Junior FFA Members 5. Previous livestock feeders that did not show proficiency (under 40 points)

Junior Varsity  As close to “real” production ag as possible  Group purchased animals with similar genetics  Nutritionally balanced feed of commercial quality

Junior Varsity  Rabbits: $150  Broilers: $270  Swine: $450  Goats: $400  Sheep: $450

Junior Varsity  Livestock commission (market price)  “Fall Challenge” Prizes  Cash Earnings  Point system determines cash earnings  Market steers are not eligible for cash earnings

Junior Varsity  Condensed feeding period  Mid July – October 5 th (approximate)

Junior Varsity  Public Livestock Marketing channels  Student will receive a check from the Livestock Marketing agent for the animal

Junior Varsity  Evaluated by a point system  Daily Care and Feed Management  Facility and Pen Management / Cleanliness  Record Keeping  Livestock Knowledge (Exam)  Meeting Attendance  Animal Performance  Showmanship  Pathway to Varsity level (70 points or higher)

 Applications for livestock species due on June 13th with a deposit (facility usage) full payment is due on July 2nd.
