Leonid Afremov Pallet Knife Painting Autumn Perspective

Leonid Afremov was born on 12 July 1955 in Vitebsk, Belarus, then former USSR. He grew up as a Jewish person in a country where he was persecuted his whole life. In 1990, he moved his family to Israel where he worked as a graphic designer in an advertising agency. During this time, Afremov continued to paint but could not get much money for his works. Even in Israel, he was looked down upon but this time for being a Russian immigrant. His works sold to galleries for very little money, yet they profited greatly from them. In 1994, his son tried selling his work door to door in the mainly Russian community they lived in, and he found some success doing that. Eventually, Afremov opened his own gallery and frame shop in which to exhibit and sell his paintings from, but this was only frequented by the Russian immigrant community, and never the Israelis. He continued to be persecuted by the Israelis, including having his store vandalized many times. In March 2001, Afremov's gallery was completely vandalized. Dozens of paintings were destroyed, the artistic equipment stolen and the facility turned into rubble. Then Leonid decided it was time to move somewhere else where he could be treated with deserved respect, eventually moving to the USA (New York) in January In 2004, Afremov was introduced to the internet and EBay. He became very successful marketing directly to the customers and eventually opportunities for commission orders and access to different galleries. Thanks to the internet exposure, Afremov participated in various local TV shows around the USA. His art was declared very relaxing and calm by notable psychologists and psychiatrists who make use of his painting in various psychological and psychiatric therapy procedures. Afremov's paintings were published not only in art magazines but also in various medical and health magazines as examples of stress reducing paintings. In 2005 following a successful year, the Afremov family moved to Boca Raton. In 2010, citing health reasons, Afremov moved to Playa del Carmen near Cancun where he now resides and continues to paint. His two sons run the sales side of his business, which leaves Afremov time to paint. (Watch him paint live from his home at: ) Biography- (from )
