Idiom and Phrases

1. soak sth in sth to make something completely wet if you soak something, or if you let it soak, you keep it covered with a liquid for a period of time, especially in order to make it softer or easier to clean

Example A: How do I clean my pants. They’re so dirty. B: Soak your pants in cold water and wash them later.

1. sb’s fingers soaking in stuff Manicure: a treatment for the hands that includes cutting and polishing the nails [ ↪ pedicure]

Example A: Where’re you going? B: I’m going to a beauty salon. I’m gonna sit around with my fingers soaking in stuff

9. get in sb’s way You can’t get in or out because sb blocks your way

Example Ross: The one that always stares at me when I come in? Monica: No, the one who looked at you once because you got in her way.

10. be into sb / sth Interesting in sb or sth

Example A: Look! Jolin’s staring at me. I think she’s into me. B: In your dreams.

14. freak out to become suddenly angry or afraid, especially so that you cannot control your behavior

Example A: Who ate the cheese cake on the table? B: Me, it was really delicious. A: Oh! Tony’s gonna freak out. That’s his favorite cake.

22. make sb’s peace with sth/sb to end a quarrel with a person or group, especially by telling them you are sorry

Example A: Who let the dog in? B: Me A: I don’t like dogs. They’re dirty. B: I’ve washed it already. It’s clean. And it’s raining now. A: Alright, I can make my peace with the clean dog.

41. have a shot at sth An attempt to do sth or achieve sth

Example A: I decided to have a shot at decorating the house myself. B: In your dreams. This is my house. Never think about it.

How to writing a short essay?

Remember this? 1. A paragraph is a group of sentences which develop one central idea.

2. The central idea is usually stated in a topic sentence.

3. Every sentence in the paragraph must help the development of the topic sentence.
