Step 10. LONDON SIGHTSEENG TOUR We welcome you to London. London is the capital of the UK. London is one of the largest cities in the world. London is one of the world’s largest ports. You’ll see London’s most famous sights from the top of our red double- decker.

TRAFALGAR SQUARE Trafalgar square is in the centre of the West End of London. In the centre there is Nelson’s Column with the figure of Admiral Nelson who defeated the French at the Battle of Trafalgar in On the north side there is the National Gallery. In the north-east corner there is the National Portrait Gallery.

ST.PAUL’S CATHEDRAL The greatest work of Christopher Wren. The Cathedral was begun in 1675 but finished only in 1710,when Wren was almost eighty years old. There are memorials to many famous men of England.

THE THAMES It is 334 km long and it runs into the sea. The English people call it “the Father of London”. There is a museum of old ships on the Thames.

TOWER BRIDGE Now we are crossing Tower Bridge over the river Thames. From here you can see The Tower of London.

BIG BEN One of the most famous clocks in the world. One can hear the sound of a bell every hour. On New Year’s night people come to the Clock Tower to see the New Year in.

WESTMINSTER ABBEY Was founded in the 11th century. Many of Great Britain’s famous men are buried here. A royal church.

THE HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT The seat of British government. The Palace of Westminster. Visitors may sit in the Stranger’s Gallery looking down into the House of Commons and listen to the debates.

Americans have only five national holidays that are celebrated in every state - New Year’s Day, Independence Day, Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.

They like to play baseball, football and softball.

Many famous people were born in the USA: Mark Twain, Jack London, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, Duke Ellington and others.

American cultural icons are an apple pie, baseball, and the American flag.
