The strategy of design Inspiring innovative cultures

Embedding design into society.

21 st Century challenges.

According to a recent IBM study of more than 1500 CEO’s: “Today’s complexity is only expected to rise, and more than half of the CEO’s doubt their ability to manage it.”

“ …a culture where “failure is not an option” leading to risk adverse behaviours.” “…need to embed agility within the organisation.”

“What we really need is the ability for critical thought and a diversity of ideas in order to approach problems from different perspectives.”

“Students arriving at university today lack the creative capacity to inquire, and universities are struggling to redress this within the tight 3 years of most degree courses.”

“University students increasingly expect to be given an answer to an assignment.” “Posing an assignment that demands creative thought is now often met with resistance and panic.”

“What’s Australia doing about it? Is Australia ready for it? ”

Exploring the potential of design in our lives. A portal that provides the best access to innovation and new ideas.

A bridge between the general public and the research engines within universities, design studios and industry.

Showcase where we innovate the most effective, efficient, and compellingly beautiful new ideas, methods, processes, strategies, systems, and products.

Conventional educational thinking and practice will never accomplish what we need to get done. What we are doing is good – but not good enough.

A fundamental educational intervention.

Design emergency

What would happen if we rolled out this program nationally? What if we made this program core to learning from K-12?

Immersing Australia’s K-12 students in a multi-year program of design led innovation workshops would foster a culture of adaptable, confident thinking from an early age.

This is where we believe some of the greatest potential of design lies today.

The Australian Design Centre can be the engine to make this happen.
