What worked for us …  Feasibility projects  Proving ground for innovative ideas/technologies.  Great introduction to clients from industries/ markets where currently not involved.  Opportunity to present/exhibit results.  CR&D projects  Used for later stage development.  More in-depth proving ground for your chosen market.  Feasibility  CR&D for the same application.

Tips (as an SME)  Keep all projects to minimum number of core partners (i.e. no hangers on).  Don’t get involved in projects if not core to your strategy.  Involve end-user in project wherever possible – challenging if you are an SME involving a large corporate.  Best if project led by the technical innovator.

Interest in this competition  Efficiency improvements with oil & gas recovery.  Improved asset management with energy generators, oil & gas production and distribution.  Deploying monitoring systems on new techniques (carbon capture, advanced fossil-fuel processes).
