 Born on Yankton Sioux Reservation  Mother was a full blooded Sioux, her father was a white man we know little about  Married to Captain Raymond Bonnin.  The Bonnins had one son named Raymond Ohiya, which means winner.  She grew up in a difficult time for the Native Americans

 Pen Name: Zitkala-Sa  Activist for Women and Native American rights  Was secretary of the Society of the American Indian which improved conditions for the Native Americans  Went to missionary school

 She founded the National Council of American Indians in  Atlantic Monthly and Harpers Monthly  Important Native American Writer  Helped to establish an Indian Welfare Committee
