Basics of the Body & Anatomy

ANATOMY : structural makeup especially of an organism or any of its parts - from the Greek anatome, which means ‘to dissect’ - structure of the body PHYSIOLOGY: a branch of biology that deals with the functions and activities of life or of living matter (as organs, tissues, or cells) and of the physical and chemical phenomena involved - how the body functions The Basics

PATHOLOGY: the study of the essential nature of diseases and especially of the structural and functional changes produced by them - how it affects the body HOMEOSTASIS: a relatively stable state of equilibrium or a tendency toward such a state between the different but interdependent elements or groups of elements of an organism, population, or group - how the body stays stablestable Basics cont’d
