Washington,D.C., is the capital city of the United States of America. ”D.C.” is an abbreviation for the District of Columbia, the federal state. The city is named after George Washington, military leader of the American Revolution and the first President of the United States.

The White House at night The White House is the official residence of the President of the United States of America.

The Liberty Bell is a huge bronze bell that symbolizes freedom in the United States of America. This historic bell is located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA.

It was rung at the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in Philadelphia (on July 8,1776).It rang to announce many important events in early American history, including Presidential elections and deaths. The bell was first called the Liberty Bell in 1839.

The Statue of Liberty is a huge sculpture that is located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. This monument was a gift to the USA from the people of France in recognition of the French-American alliance during the American Revolution. The Statue pictures a woman who has escaping the chains of tyranny (the broken chains lie at her feet) Liberty’s right hand holds a torch that is a symbol of liberty. The Statue was designed by the French sculptor Frederic Bartholdi. It was built in France-in July,1884. It was brought to the USA in 350 pieces on a French ship called the “Isere” (in June,1885) There are 354 steps inside the statue and its pedestal. There are 25 windows in the crown. The seven rays of Liberty’s crown symbol the seven seas and seven continents of the world.

The Washington monument is a large white-colored obelisk at the west end of the National Mall in Washington, D.C. It was built in honor of George Washington,who led the country to independence, and then became its first President. The monument is 169 m. in height and is made of marble, granite and sandstone. It was designed by Robert Mills, a great American architect. It averages 30 to 40 miles visibility in clear weather. The monument was completed on December 6,1884. It was opened to the public on October 9,1888 and weights 90,800 tons.

A short walk from the Washington Monument leads to the Lincoln Memorial at the west end of the Mall area on the banks of the Potomac. Thirty-six columns, representing the States of the Union at the time of Lincoln’s death, support the roof of the building. The beautiful marble figure of the murdered president which is inside the building gazes towards the Washington Monument and reminds people of the drama of the Civil War and the horror of the shooting in Ford’s Theatre. In this theatre Abraham Lincoln was mortally wounded in 1865 during the performance of a popular play “OUR AMERICAN COUSIN “ The Lincoln Memorial was dedicated on Memorial Day-May 30,1922.

The Pentagon is a building where the leaders of the Department of Defense, the Army, the Navy and the Air Force are located. It is the military center. The Pentagon was built between It is a huge five-sided and five storeyed building. The Pentagon has more than 17 miles of corridors and a lot of people work there.

The Capitol is the seat of the Government of the United States of America. It is in the very center of Washington. It is situated on Capitol Hill, the highest point in the city. The Capitol is the highest building in Washington. There is a law in Washington not to build houses higher than the Capitol. The Capitol is the seat of Congress,which consists of two Chambers, the Senate and the House of Representatives. It contains 540 rooms.

Mount Rushmore National Memorial is a monumental granite sculpture which represents the first 150 years of the history of the USA with 18 m sculptures of the heads of former United States presidents :George Washington( ),Thomas Jefferson ( ),Theodore Roosevelt( ),and Abraham Lincoln( ). The memorial attracts approximately 2 million people every year.
