Standards Outline Standards in the Ground Segment Geospatial standards, vs mass market standards IT industry standards Where is the HMA effort placed? Conclusions

Standards

Standards in the Ground Segment Project Management, Software development and maintenance: ECSS FOS: standardisation forum: CCSDS PDGS: –Open Geospatial Consortium for the interfaces at application level(*) –Other IT and proprietary industry standards, … (*) note often “extending” ISO standards

Standards Geospatial Standards Open Geospatial Consortium standards –Interfaces for Geospatial services; e.g. Web Map Services –Mass-market standards: see e.g. google’s kml, or opensearch

Standards IT Industry Standards Consensus based Industry Standards which are the foundation for the telecommunication and Internet architecture : e.g. –Service protocols OASIS e.g SAML, ws-securityOASIS –Internet connectivity Internet Engineering Task Force- IETF e.g. HTTP, FTPInternet Engineering Task Force- IETF –Internet standards W3C e.g SOAP, OntologyW3C Open Source and Proprietary - industry defined “Standards”: e.g. –Cloud Computing: e.g. Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Open Nebula, –Data management: e.g. HADOOP, RASDAMAN, …

Standards Where is the HMA effort placed? For an overview on space standards, see the CEN 202 ReportCEN 202 Report HMA Standards are all published as OGC Documents they relate to ISO standards for the conceptual modelling and to OASIS and IETF standards for the underlying service and transport models. Additional details on the HMA Cookbook (see draft)see draft Proprietary and open source standards are addressed via technology studies.

Standards Conclusions The number of standards available exceeds the ability for a single company/institution to test all of them. Continuous cooperative effort in GSCB and HMA AWG needed.
