HOW DID YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH, PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?

DIGIPAK I used Photoshop to create my Digipak with a template I found so that I could organise all of its elements effectively. I started by designing the front cover. I wanted to create a robot eye and in order to do so I had to take a high resolution image of the eye and then edit it in Photoshop. In order to create this robotic effect I took several different car engine parts and LED’s and edited them into the eye to make it look unnatural. At first this didn’t work very well as the images did not blend into the eye very well making it look very silly. To fix this I used a mixture of the blending tool as well as the blur tool in order to smoothen the edges giving it a more polished finish. Another big element of the digipak was the font creation. This took a while as it required me to manually edit the photoshop text files in order to get this polished futuristic font. I did this by removing sections of each letter in the word; however when doing this I found that removing too much of the letter would make the letters have no body. The last big part of the digipak was the use of images and logos. This was relatively simple as it only required me to remove backgrounds using the magic wand tool and then using a soft eraser to make the edges of the logos softer and fit in with the theme better.

ADVERT For the creation of my advert I used three different programs: Adobe Ilustrator, Photoshop and QR Code Creator. Illustrator I created the main image in illustrator by tracing a cyborg like character image I drew on paper. After doing this I smoothed out the vectors using the smoothing tool. I then filled the image after changing it into a live paint object, allowing me to fill it. Photoshop After I had finished creating the main image I then moved it over onto Photoshop where I created a gradient layer and added the relevant codes and logos I used in my Digipak. I found that this gradient looked very unpolished also making it look very boring as well. In order to improve this I used a liquidize effect on a smoke like object I created using the pen tool. I then turned down the opacity on the smoky object to make it look more effective. The final touch to complete the image was to add a red dot where the eye was with a blur and lens flare looking effect, making it look very dramatic. QR Code Creator I used this to generate a link to the Artists website. This means that anyone viewing the advert can use their phone in order to find out more about the band.

FILMING During My filming I used a range of equipment including a DSLR camera, various lights, a tripod and Sony Vegas to edit the video files. Camera and Filming Equipment I had a very limited selection of equipment to use compared to a big budget production but experimented with what I had to get the best shots possible. In a lot of the panning or moving shots I had no stabiliser so I held the tripod from the bottom when fully extended in order to dampen any jumps when moving. This worked pretty well but I would have preferred to use an outdoor dolly or rail but unfortunately it was not available. Another shot that I experimented with were the face shots, in order to create a smooth shot that was identical with every cut I had to place the tripod on the actor and had them hold it while I moved the camera, this did create the shot I wanted but was very uncomfortable for the actor. Ideally I would have liked a gopro with a face attachment making stage direction much easier. Sony Vegas I used sony vegas to edit my music video because I already had experience using it from my AS course. I had some issues with it where recovered files wouldn’t load into the program meaning I had to re edit a lot of my work after it got deleted by accident. Overall I found that I could edit the clips onto the beat using the soundwaves on the audio file to make it very accurate. Overall I found that the program worked very well and allowed me to add certain filters and cuts that brought the filming together nicely.
