Definition of “Robot” Summary Device that performs tasks humans usually would perform Device capable of performing repetitive and complicated tasks Device capable of operating on its own through a set of preprogrammed commands

Robot Classifications Stationary Robot Performs all its operations in one place Uses arms and extensions to perform tasks Most common in industrial settings Mobile Robot Move around on legs, tracks, or wheels Most commonly used to travel into places that humans cannot (i.e. deep underwater, another planet, a nuclear power plant)

Asimov’s Law of Robotics A robot may not injure a human being, or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
