Types of Eaters

Carnivore  An animal that gets food from killing and eating other animals  Generally eat herbivores, but can eat omnivores also  Important to the ecosystem to keep other species from getting overpopulated  Require a large amount of calories

Omnivores  A kind of animal that eats either other animals or plants  Some will hunt their food while other are scavengers and will eat dead matter  Many eat eggs from other animals

Herbivore  An animal that gets its energy from eating plants, and only plants  They need a lot of energy, so many eat all day long

Types of Vegetarians The practice of abstaining from the consumption of meat

Pescetarian  Those who abstain from eating all meat and animal flesh with the exception of fish  More people are adopting this kind of diet, usually for health reasons or as a stepping stone to a fully vegetarian diet

Flexitarian/ Semi-vegetarian  Those who eat a mostly vegetarian diet, but occasionally eat meat

Lacto-ovo Vegetarian  Those who do not eat beef, pork, poultry, fish, shellfish or animal flesh of any kind  They do eat eggs and dairy products  “Lacto” is Latin for milk and “Ovo” is for egg

Lacto- Vegetarian  Those who do not eat eggs, but do eat dairy products

Vegan  Vegans do not eat meat of any kind and also do not eat eggs, dairy products, or processed foods containing these or other animal-derived ingredients  Many refrain from eating foods made using animal prodcts

Raw vegan  A raw vegan diet consists of unprocessed vegan foods that have not been heated above 115 degrees Fahrenheit  They believe that foods cooked above this temperature have lost a significant amount of their nutritional value and are harmful to the body.
