Strengths of using SWOT  Easy to complete and understand  It is a source of information for strategic planning  Understanding your business better  Builds organisation’s strengths  Identifies its weaknesses  Maximize its response to opportunities  Addresses organisation’s threats  It helps in identifying core competencies of the firm  It helps in setting of objectives for strategic planning  It helps in knowing past, present and future so that by using past and current data, future plans can be written or altered.

Limitations of using SWOT  Doesn't prioritise issues  Doesn't provide solutions or offer alternative decisions  Can generate too many ideas but not help you choose which one is best  Can produce a lot of information, but not all of it is useful  Changes in the external environment such as price increases, new competitors, exchange rates and tax changes
