 Hermeneutics is the art and science of Biblical interpretation. It is a science because it has rules that can be classified into an orderly system. It is an art because the rules cannot always be rigidly applied.

Biblical literature has both: 1. Eternal relevance 2. Historical particularity Biblical interpretation involves two steps: 1. Exegesis 2. Application Historical-grammatical method considers: 1. the text’s linguistic medium and genre 2. geographic, cultural, and historical setting 3. life setting of author & original readers

OBSERVATIONS (many observations) INTERPRETATION (one meaning) APPLICATIONS (to many applications) BREAK IT DOWN

 Exegesis - is a critical explanation or interpretation of a text, especially a religious text.  Eisegesis - is the process of misinterpreting a text in such a way that it introduces one's own ideas, reading into the text.
