Novel Reading Elective Mrs. Dossey

Elective Wheel First Trimester- August 20th-November 13th- Mrs. Dossey Second Trimester- November 16th- March 4th- Mrs. Blake Third Trimester- March 7th- June 9th- Mrs. Greenwald

Novel Reading Elective Designed to challenge all learners to the greatest possible extent of their abilities Students move beyond the regular reading curriculum to learn skills in: –Comprehension –Literary analysis –Critical thinking

Novel Reading Elective Throughout the trimester, students will read and analyze two core literature novels: –The Cay –The Hatchet During class discussions, interpretive questions are asked that lead to a thought- provoking exchange of ideas. Since most of the work is done in class, good attendance is very important.

Homework All reading will be done in class. If you are absent, you will be required to read the chapters and complete any activities that you missed.

Grading You will be graded on: –Class assignments/projects –Journal writing –Quizzes –Tests
