The EU is the biggest provider of development aid in the world The EU provides over half of all development aid Official development aid, billion € (2013)

Development aid and cooperation Over half of all development aid comes from the EU and its members. Most aid goes to low-come and least developed countries. ΕU development policy aims to give disadvantaged people in developing countries control over their own development that means: Focusing on the causes of vulnerability, eg. poor access to food, clean water, education, health, social services etc. Improving respect for human rights Supporting the democratic process Encouraging a more stable economic environment Eradicating disease and providing access to cheap medicines to fight epidemics like HIV/AIDS.

Gender equality The gender pay gap: Women in the EU earn on average 16.4 % less per hour than men. Women are still over-represented in lower paid sectors and under-represented in decision-making positions.
