Presentation Title Presented by Joe Blow Beyond Flow and Pressure By: Tom Cabezut Western Regional Manager

Things To Consider Flow and pressure are key, but how do we actually apply the separators to more complex applications? Where can we apply them What to look for when solids are 1% by volume ASME code options/selections High temperature and high pressure adders; why? How to handle variable flows Basic separator efficiencies based on specific gravity

3 Vehicle Wash Systems Municipal Water Steel Mills Pulp & Paper Auto Manufacturing Mining Power Plants Hot Oil (Cooking) Fuel Distribution Oil & Gas Metal Working Fluids Process Cooling Chemical Processing Industries To Apply the Separator

4 On a “continuous bleed” application, what percent of total separator flow can be purged out the bottom without disrupting the vortex? High Solids Loading Purging 5% recommended but no more than 10% 1000gpm flow at 1% solids by volume, how much are you going to purge assuming close to 98% effciency? What function does the “Vortube” serve? Does it really work? It acts as a pressure relief line as solids displace the water. Customer calls to complain that his separator is not working? They always work….99% of the time it is application specific

5 Anything over 285psi must be ASME code per CLC policy Application Worksheet must be on file prior to accepting purchase order Speak with an Application Engineer here at LAKOS Get the entire specification from the specifying engineer. IE: Bechtel Submittals and specification details will take longer than normal separators ASME Code Requirements

6 Gaskets Flanges Materials of Construction Paperwork: Material Certs, Hydro Test Certs, Design Calculation Package List Price High Pressure and Temperature Differences

What is truly special? Anything that is not listed in the price lists. What to expect from special units: o Higher pricing o Longer Lead Times o Possible onsite visits multiple times When do we use a coating and why? o To protect against aggressive fluids IE: Caustics, Sea-Water Typical coating is a 3M Skotch Coat Model name will be JSK-0650-V etc. Ls-474

12

13 What do we use for an abrasive material or high solids loading? AR400 Abrasion Resistance pipe and plate. Most common method to help improve removal efficiency is a multi- stage unit in series. Tri-Sep or Bi-Sep High Solids Loading/Abrasive Material Carbon steel or stainless steel can also be heat treated where AR plate cannot be used

14

Flow Rate: 1200 gpm Fluid: 3% Caustic/Water Solids to remove: 2500 ppm of sand Pressure: 125psi How much sand per minute? Purge Equip: ? Separator Model: ? Application Number One

Cooling tower sump: In ground 30’-0” x 30’-0” with 3’- 0” depth Fluid: Water at 90 degrees Solids to remove: Air borne dirt with pollen fines and steel scale How much flow for filtration package? Will nozzles be required? What model(s) can we use? Purge equip and solids collection? Special requirements? Application Number Two

In Summary… Every application is different, be conscience of the details and use the application worksheets Provide a complete solution Understand the customers expectations Use the factory for help (Application Engineers) Schedule times with your regional manager to bring the demo trailer in (If available in your area)

Thank You!
