Soft Skills  Soft Skills are ‘skills, abilities and traits that pertain to personality, attitude, and behavior.’  They also refer to the cluster of personality traits, social graces, facility with language, personal habits, friendliness, and optimism that mark people to varying degrees.

Soft Skills  Soft skills are not hard skills which are basically the technical requirements of a job.  Adopting soft skills has become a major component for acquiring and maintaining a good job.  Today’s service economy is focussing more on people’s skills than mechanical processes.

Common Soft skills  Soft skill are very important:  To handle interpersonal relations  To take appropriate decisions  To communicate effectively  To have good impression and impact to gain professional development

Common Soft skills  Acting as a team player  Self-confident  Working well under pressure  Adaptability In order to achieve all these soft skills, we need to work on polishing certain skills.

Communication Skill as Soft Skill  Communication skills form the corner stone of soft skill.

Communication Skills The ability to speak fluently using the right word in the right order is good communication. Message using appropriate vocabulary and syntax form effective communication.

BODY LANGUAGE Face is the index of the mind and it clearly displays the person’s interest.

 Body language (e.g. arms crossed, standing, sitting, relaxed)  Emotion of the sender & receiver (e.g. speaking clearly, enthusiastic)

Written Communication Skill  Writing evaluates a person’s proficiency, spelling grammar, etc.  Errors committed while writing circulars, reports & agenda considerably spoil the image of the writer.

Presentation Skills  Presentation skills include planning, preparation, & delivery of the message.  Making a formal speech is one form of presentation.  Presentation skills can be broadly categorized into physical, oral, & electronic skills.

Presentation Skills  Success in life depends on presenting ideas in an appropriate manner.  Look at the eyes of the audience & speak in a natural, conversational voice.  Appropriate voice will make the presentation effective and interesting.  Ask for feed back from your audience about your presentation & if necessary, change accordingly.

TEAM WORK  People of either gender, different age groups, qualification, status, & skills work as a team with a common objective of accomplishing the task.  The success of any organization largely depends on the coordinated efforts of its employees.  It mainly refers to the agreeableness & co-operation among the team members.

Professional Ethics  Professional ethics is the need of the hour.  When a person is at the work place, he must put his heart & soul into the work.  Each employee is an organic part of the organization & must strive to contribute his best to the successful functioning of the organization.

Interpersonal Skills  Man is a social animal and his success in life largely depends on his relationship and interaction with others.  We must respect the views and sentiments of others.  When we want to differ with anyone’s views, we must very politely give hints without hurting their feelings.

Stress Management

Conflict Resolution  The ability to persuade, negotiate, and resolve conflicts is crucial if you plan to move up.  Lynne Sarikas is the Director of the MBA Career Center says: "You need to have the skill to develop mutually beneficial relationships in the organization so you can influence and persuade people. You need to be able to negotiate win-win solutions to serve the best interests of the company and the individuals involved."
