A Listening: Predicting details. Before listening, it is often useful to predict what kind of details you should listen for to complete an exercise. For example, if you are going to listen to a salesman give a sale presentation, you can predict that he may talk about:

 the kind of product  how to use it  the features of the product  the price, etc.  who the product is for Make such predictions in advance will help you listen for most important details.

Roland Li started a chain of chemist shops that are different from most chemist shops. He is going to talk about his business in a radio interviews.

Speaking: Preparing for interview. It is important to prepare in advance for an interviews. An interview will come up with a list of questions to be asked upon the topic and purpose of the interview. B

When preparing such a list, the interview should keep these questions in mind:  What is the purpose of the interview?  Based on the purpose, what information is necessary to learn?  What information is not important?

The interview should try to guess the kind of questions that might be asked and prepare answers for those questions. This preparation because it helps the interview in the following respects: have confidence have a smooth interview make a good impression explain important information

First, prepare for the interview. S1 will be the journalist, and S2 the business person. S1 should come up with a list at least eight questions to ask S2, while S2 should try to predict what kinds of questions might be asked, and prepare answers. B1 S1 should use the form below to write questions:

B2 Now S1 should interview S2. S1 should take note of the answers S2 gives. If S2 does not have an interview prepared S1 has, then S2 should use his or her information to answer the question. S1 should ask follow-up questions in order to keep the interview going.

B3 After the interview is over, review the process and have S2 act as the journalist and S1 as the business person. Do B1 and B2 once more.

B4 Each students should prepare a report for the class about the person they interviewed. Selected students can present this report orally to the class.
