I Am the Gate

The third (10:9) and fourth (10:11) “I Am” statements are anchored on the figure of speech Jesus used in verses 1-5 of John 10.
But the broader context includes the story of the blind beggar whom Jesus healed on a Sabbath and who was excommunicated by the Pharisees (9:1-34). In His claim, “I am the gate”, he identifies himself as the only way to a full and abundant life.
