 Not having enough to eat to meet energy requirements Asia is the continent with the most hungry people Sub-Saharan Africa is the area with the highest prevalence of hunger (1 in 4) Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five million children each year

 A state of deficiency or lacking in one or more nutrients. Serious health problems caused by poor nutrition over a prolonged period of time.  Severe acute malnutrition is defined by a very low weight for height, by visible severe wasting, or by the presence of nutritional oedema (fluid retention in the body).

 Extreme scarcity of food in a district or country due to crop failure or other food shortages (may last for months or years, frequently resulting in starvation)  A famine can be declared only when: At least 20 % of people in an area face extreme food shortages (less than 2100 kcal/day) Acute malnutrition rates exceed 30 % Death rate exceeds 2 persons per day per 10,000
