CONTACT: Mr. Pasi Kuvaja ARTEMIS Brokerage Event Call 2011 DeSRe – a project idea for ASP1 MGroup’s Industrial Partners: ABB, Alcatel-Lucent, AnswareTech, Callat&Wouters, CCC, EB, Ericsson, Fidelity investments systems company, F-Secure, Hur, IXONOS, Logica CMG, Metso automation, Nokia, NSN, OCÉ, Philips, Polar Electro, Reaktor, Scia, Sony Ericsson, Telefonica, Teliasonera, etc. MGroup’s Research Partners: Lund University, Mälardalen University, National University of Ireland, Sintef, Sirris, Technical University of Madrid, Technical University of Valencia, TuDelft, University of Limerick, University of Utrecht, VTT, Finnish Universities, etc. “Safety is the state of being free from the risk of injury, danger or loss. “ DeSRe key points Fluent practices that address safety aspects from the very beginning of Software Intensive Systems (SIS) development life cycle Goal is to improve the cost-efficiency of the safety relevant SIS development Available safety approaches are not applicable as such for very large scale RE and complex systems DeSRe project contributes to ASP1: Methods and processes for safety-relevant embedded systems. Safety is the state of being free from the risk of injury, danger or loss that could lead to the loss of health, security, data, money, and many other things. In this project the focus is on preventing the loss of data and security. As we see it, loss of data and security can lead to disintegration of safety and resulting insecure Software Intensive Systems (SIS). SIS are a composition of several embedded systems (ES) and instead of separately addressing safety issues ES by ES, DeSRe will embed the safety aspects into the SIS development process itself. Currently, we are witnessing the increase in complexity of SIS. These systems are more widely used in everyday life and all business sectors. The more complex the SIS are the harder it makes to ensure their safety. Persons, organizations, and basically our whole modern society is relying on correct behavior of these systems. It is paramount that they are safe, thus making safety an attribute that must included into SIS already gathering requirements, instead of trying to add it afterwards. So we can clearly see a need for methods and processes that take into account safety aspects when systems are built, like DeSRe. MGroup in a nutshell MGroup is a research group at the Department of Information Processing Science, University of Oulu, Finland. The group is fronted by professor Markku Oivo, professor Jouni Similä and assistant professor Pasi Kuvaja, who have a solid experience in industry and research. Members are able to pursue their individual research aims within MGroup research themes. The main research themes software and systems development methods, techniques and tools software engineering processes, assessment and improvement software quality, metrics and measurements experimental software engineering methodologies collaborative development and distributed teamwork innovation, business and organizational issues data privacy and security smart experiences Ongoing Projects Cloud ITEI DIY Smart Experiences Cooperative Traffic CreaLearn InnoCoop Previous Projects Flexi Vaspo Rooster Moose Monica Profes Bootstrap etc. We are looking for partners who manufacture or design SIS who have a research interest and experience on SIS who aim to improve their practices, processes and to build body of knowledge who have practical problems that we could solve together Our contribution Collaboration network with research partners and industrial organizations Expertise and solid practices for project proposal writing and coordination Portfolio of research methods and approaches for Software Engineering and Requirements Engineering
