About the Asian Pacific Endowment  An affiliate of Minnesota Philanthropy Partners and a fund of The Saint Paul Foundation.  Created in 1993 as part of the Diversity Endowment Fund program. The original intent was to involve communities of color in grantmaking and fundraising.  A permanent community endowment built by and for Asian-Pacific Islanders, the Asian Pacific Endowment fund supports groups that use culture to address social change and capture the community’s historic experience.  Since 1993, Asian Pacific Endowment has made more than 250 grants totaling more than $900,000.  Addressing social issues and preserving culture has been a major focus for the Endowment.  Grantmaking is advised by members of the community. 4

2015 Grantmaking Opportunity  The Asian Pacific Endowment is currently seeking proposals for projects and/or programs that use culture—broadly defined to include values, language, traditions, customs and other unique aspects of a community— to address social issues and give voice to the experiences of the diverse Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community within the state of Minnesota.  This opportunity is aimed at small, grassroots organizations.  Deadline: August 15,  Amount Available : $75,000 total, of which $18,000 must directly impact the East Metro area (Ramsey, Dakota and/or Washington Counties).  Maximum grant size: $5,000. 6

Grant Eligibility  The organization must serve an API community in Minnesota.  The program must recognize the importance of an API community or communities in the way it provides services and/or implements activities.  This applicant organization must have annual operating expenses of $500,000 or less.  Applicant must be a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service or must use a fiscal agent with 501(c)(3) nonprofit status which is in good standing with the IRS. See the Fiscal Agent Form for more information on fiscal agent requirements.  Requested grant terms should start no earlier than November 1, The proposed project or program must be completed by December 31, Final reports are typically due 30 days after completion. 7

Grantmaking priorities  Applicants must fulfill all eligibility requirements. In addition, the Endowment will give priority to the following: –Programs/projects which serve API communities for which there are few culturally-specific nonprofit services available. –Organizations which are led by members of the API community. For example, the majority of the board of directors is of API descent or an API staff person or persons direct(s) the program or project. –In addition, new organizations and organizations who have received Endowment funding fewer than two times in the past five years will receive priority. 8

Tips  Write your proposal for a group of volunteers who are knowledgeable about the API community, but may not be familiar with your organization.  Please do call staff to discuss your proposal further.  Make sure your narrative, goals and budget are aligned. 10

You must use our fiscal agent template if you are using a fiscal agent. This grant also provides you an opportunity to submit a short sample your work.  When uploading documents, please note that reviewers see a pdf of your document, so view your document in a print preview screen before uploading. Online Submission 15 Step 4: Submit your grant. When it is time to submit, please click on the Submit button. The document won’t submit until all the required fields are completed correctly. You will receive a confirmation and be taken The Saint Paul Foundation Web site when it is complete. It is very important that you check to see if your grant was actually submitted. You can see your grant application if you log back into Submittable.
