Chemical Properties A chemical property is any ability to produce a change in the composition of matter The ability to burn is a chemical property Chemical properties can be observed only when the substances in a sample of matter are changing into different substances

Chemical Properties Flammability -Is the material’s ability to burn in the presence of oxygen -Sometimes this is not a desirable property -EX’ –Children’s sleepwear fabric must be made from low flammability material

Chemical Properties Reactivity -The property that describes how readily a substance combines chemically with other substances is reactivity -Oxygen highly reactive element

Recognizing Chemical Changes Chemical change -Occurs when a substance reacts and forms one or more new substances -EX:
