The Town’s facility is well maintained and produces a good quality product, in the opinion of State officials and compost business representatives.

August 15, 2012: Jean Bonhotal, Composting Specialist with the Cornell Waste Management Institute and one of the State’s leading compost experts, visited the Town’s facility.

She had several recommendations: Develop stronger relationships with private companies as potential customers Look for new applications and markets for compost such as roads projects/erosion control and re-vegetation, and top dressing sports fields in the fall Market compost to residents/homeowners more Consider offering bagged compost, perhaps have civic groups bag and sell it as a fundraiser, and to raise awareness Keep the prices of our products competitive with local nurseries/home and garden stores and other businesses

A site visit was conducted on August 14, The two- county facility is a large operation. Through tipping fees, compost sales and contracted grinding services they nearly break even financially.

A site visit was conducted on August 16, The facility is located on a large county-owned farm. Through tipping fees, a diversity of compost products, and contracted grinding fees they are in reasonably good financial shape.
