تستخدم البوصلة لتحديد الإتجاهات فهي تشير دائماً إلى جهة الشمال / الجنوب وذلك بسبب مغناطيسية الكوكب وحديثا ً اصبحت البوصلات اكثر تطوراً بعد ربطها الكترونياً بالأقمار الصناعية واستخدام تقنية GPS - GPRS - AGPS
