C OMPUTER C ATEGORIES There are many types of computers, but four main categories: 1. Supercomputers - are the most powerful, fastest, largest, and most expensive, with a lot of processing power. - they help solve complex and very difficult problems that require lots of calculations, and process huge amounts of data.

2. Mainframe Computers - are very large, fairly expensive, and the most common type of computer that provides centralized storage, processing, and management of large amounts of data. - they are found in many large organizations, such as governments, banks, and hospitals.

3. Minicomputers - were developed to handle specific tasks and can process tasks for many users. - companies that do not need mainframe computers use these computers.

4. Microcomputers (PCs) - these computers are found in homes or small businesses. Examples of PCs: Desktop Model - is designed to sit on a desk. Workstation Computer - part of a computer network, have more memory, storage and speed.

Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) - small hand-held computers, which can link to your home or work computer. Notebook Computer - Also called laptops, fits easily in a briefcase and is ideal for travel.
