Planning Board Meeting Updating the Tree Protection Ordinance April 20, :00 PM

Residential Property Goals: ◦ Avoid clear-cutting of lots ◦ Protect tree canopy, especially during redevelopment ◦ Have little, if any, impact on the day-to-day care, maintenance, planting, use, and enjoyment of trees on private property.

Residential Property Changes Maintain 5,000 SF clearing threshold (of trees and land) to trigger permit review Continue to require Zoning Compliance Permits as currently defined for projects meeting above threshold Provide standards for permit review related to: ◦ Canopy coverage ◦ Tree protection Eliminate separate Tree Work Permit Provide educational information to property owners

Non-residential Property Goals: ◦ Provide distinction between infill, redevelopment and downtown locations for canopy protection and/or; ◦ Reconsider the canopy coverage percentages for differing lots ◦ Provide more predictability in the review process for property owners

Non-Residential Property Changes Distinguish between different types of non-residential developments ◦ Downtown ◦ Redevelopment and Infill Provide more information on exceptions to canopy coverage requirements
