The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci ~

~Who~ Leonardo da Vinci (1452~1519) 15 x 30 inches (about 38 x 76 cm) when Da Vinci painted his famous "Last Supper" mural, 45 years old In fact, the drafting of plans, da Vinci spent at least 20 years, the beginning of the real painting, then spent three years.

~When~ Renaissance

~What~ The Last Supper specifically portrays the reaction given by each apostle when Jesus said one of them would betray him. All twelve apostles have different reactions to the news, with various degrees of anger and shock. From left to right: Bartholomew, James, son of Alphaeus and Andrew form a group of three, all are surprised.BartholomewJames, son of AlphaeusAndrew Judas Iscariot, Peter and John form another group of three. Judas is wearing green and blue and is in shadow, looking rather withdrawn and taken aback by the sudden revelation of his plan. He is clutching a small bag, perhaps signifying the silver given to him as payment to betray Jesus, or perhaps a reference to his role within the 12 disciples as treasurer. He is the only person to have his elbow on the table; traditionally a sign of bad manners. Peter looks angry and is holding a knife pointed away from Christ, perhaps foreshadowing his violent reaction in Gethsemane during Jesus' arrest. The youngest apostle, John, appears to swoon.Judas IscariotPeterJohn Thomas, James the Greater and Philip are the next group of three. Thomas is clearly upset; James the Greater looks stunned, with his arms in the air. Meanwhile, Philip appears to be requesting some explanation.ThomasJames the GreaterPhilip Matthew, Jude Thaddeus and Simon the Zealot are the final group of three. Both Jude Thaddeus and Matthew are turned toward Simon, perhaps to find out if he has any answer to their initial questionsMatthewJude ThaddeusSimon the Zealot

~How~ Leonardo painted The Last Supper on a dry wall rather than on wet plaster, so it is not a true fresco. Because a fresco cannot be modified as the artist works, Leonardo instead chose to seal the stone wall with a layer of pitch, gesso and mastic, then paint onto the sealing layer with tempera. Because of the method used, the piece has not withstood time very well – within a few years of completion it had already begun showing signs of deterioration.plasterfrescopitch gessomastic tempera Two early copies of The Last Supper are known to exist, presumably the work of Leonardo's assistant. The copies are almost the size of the original, and have survived with a wealth of original detail still intact.

~Why~ The Last Supper - foreknowledge death does greatly. The reason why it was painted : if the life knows in advance dies coming soon, what expression will have? “The Last Supper” is a foreknowledge death great does greatly, the chart has drawn the character who 13 expressions vary. Dawenxi believed that except the physical property existence, the humanity also has a spiritual existence space. “The Last Supper” is only originally Christianity "Holy Bible" spreads words concerned Jesus to know in advance the death the event, he before being nailed to staple the cross, last time with 12 disciple together suppers. Dawenxi expands into the religious subject the universal philosophy proposition. Dawenxi invites each person “the supper” on table, he wants each person province to think, the death approaches is inevitable, dies temporary, what response we will have? “The Last Supper” is a stage, 13 people sit completely in with eat meal at the same time dine, basic unreasonable, is only, Dawenxi wanted the drawing was already not “the supper”, but was the fate subject ── death which a life could not be evaded.

~Where~ The painting measures 460 × 880 centimeters (15 feet × 29 ft) and covers the back wall of the dining hall at Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. The theme was a traditional one for refectories, but Leonardo's interpretation gave it much greater realism and depth.

Another work by Leonardo da Vinci In addition to paintings, Da Vinci left behind about 13,000 of the notes and drawings. From the content of the manuscripts, we know he had the human anatomy, had the idea of aircraft that will manufacture mortars, designed for up to three hundred meters of bridges, in the optical, mechanical, astronomy, geology, there is also a very in- depth study. He was a musician, will perform a variety of musical instruments, but also make their own musical instruments, it is an "all- knowing, omnipotent," genius.
