What is the holiday origin ? was established to commemorate the Jewish Maccabees' military victory over the Greek- Syrians and the rededication of the Second Tample.

The holiday’s name “Hanukkah”, from the Hebrew word for "dedication" or "consecration", marks the re- dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem after its desecration by the Greeks.

Hanukka’s Customs Hanukkah is celebrated by few customs that are performed every day throughout the 8-day holiday: 1) Lighting candles 2) eating foods fried or baked in oil 3) Playing dreidels (sevivon in Hebrew)

Lighting candles 1. light a single light each night for eight nights. number of lights lit is increased by one each night. 2. An extra light called a shamash, meaning servant is also lit each night, and is given a distinct location, usually higher than the others. 3)Hanukkah lights should burn for at least one half hour after it gets dark

Eating Foods Fried or Baked in Oil As the original miracle of the Hanukkah menorah involved the discovery of a small jug of pure olive oil used by the Jewish High Priest. This small batch of olive oil was only supposed to last one day, however it lasted eight days. Common Hanukkah foods accordingly: All kinds of jam-filled doughnuts deep-fried in oil – Latkes, Sephinge, Sufganiyot

Eid el- Adha commemorates the willingness and obedience of Abraham to sacrifice his son Ishmael to Allah.

The holiday is celebrated to thank God for substituting a lamb for Ishmael.
