Teamwork! Teamwork is essential for building a master schedule. You need to select a team and establish norms. Keep in mind that learning is the end goal.

Singletons, Doubletons, Tripletons Place singletons first, then doubletons, then tripletons. Never place a doubleton in conflict with a singleton. Doubletons should be placed different periods and different semesters to increase flexibility. Singleton and Doubleton is the most tedious, but most important part of building the master schedule.

Establish Your Seat Counts Let your data processor know what you would like each class seat count to be. Early runs should be lower numbers to force balance. The last run should be higher, more realistic numbers to lower the hand scheduling. For example an early run would be: Health/Fitness at 50, Core at 34, Music at 70. The last run numbers would be: Health/Fitness at 60, Core at 38, Music at 70. Copyright 20108

Never … Move a singleton or doubleton Make more than two moves at once Loose track of your vertical seat count Try to solve more than one problem at a time Wait to fix second semester problems later Leave for summer until classes are balanced Always … Work as a team Move sections of multiple section courses Remember that a single move may impact several grade levels Always ensure multiple section courses are spread over as many periods and semesters as possible. Remember it is about the learning! 11Copyright 2010 Moves
