Explanation If we are given a point (x,y) and a slope we can create a linear equation. Demonstration with the slider.

Example I’m given a slope of -3 and the coordinate point (-1,7). I need to input the data into the point-slope formula and simplify:

Example Graphing: y – 2 = 2(x – 3) Remember the general form is: The slope is therefore 2 and the coordinate point is (3,2) So we need to plot the point then use the slope of 2 and rise 2 than run 1.

Example Using the following points we need to create an equation: (6, -4) (-3, 5) First we need to find the slope: Now we can use the point-slope formula
