SG-OBIS-V, May 2016 Lenore Bajona, Director of Data Management OTN Data Centre OTN Data Portal:

Report on OTN OBIS activities from 2015 and future plans 2016/2017 OTN OBIS 2015

OTN DB to IPT Created Early 2015, OTN developed (python) scripts to generate DarwinCoreArchive files (2 xml metadata files, 1 txt data file) directly from OTN database As posting archive file to IPT not functional, then developed (python) scripting to populate IPT Metadata Forms, uploading txt file manually May 2015, OTN then added 11 new data resources using this new scripting

In 2015 OTN added 11 resources to OBIS Canada IPT for a total of 6,525 animal release records. Published to OBIS

OTN OBIS Future Due to changes in OBIS fields, formats (content: adding Marine for harvesting) need to modify data extraction (python) scripting Due to changes in GBIF IPT forms, need to modify (python) scripting for populating IPT forms* - would it be possible to receive notification when forms are changed and exactly what changes were made? Due to higher priority tasks, these have not been reviewed nor assigned to date - Hopeful for fall/winter 2016 * If loading Archive files (i.e. DarwinCoreArchive) to IPT worked, then changes in the forms would then hopefully no longer impact OTN scripting OPEN DATA OR IT DIDN’T HAPPEN!

OTN Data Centre - USA Partnerships OTN Data Centre (OTNDC) working with: a couple US telemetry community groups to implement OTN Nodes: FACT (Florida), iTAG (Gulf of Mexico). several US IOOS RAs (Integrated Ocean Observing System, Regional Association) toward implementation of telemetry databases using OTN model: CaRA (Caribbean), MATOS/MARACOOS (Mid-Atlantic), GLATOS/GLOS (Great Lakes), NANOOS (Northwest Pacific – db exists but still located/managed by OTN). OPEN DATA OR IT DIDN’T HAPPEN!

OTN Data Centre (OTNDC) assisting in: Deployment of Node to South Africa (SAIAB), though not yet locally managed (training provide July 2015). Implementation of OTN Node in South Brazil (Federal University of Rio Grande) – shared funding from Canada and Brazil (training planned August 2016). VLIZ development of an OTN like Telemetry Database (for EAATN and more). OPEN DATA OR IT DIDN’T HAPPEN! OTN DC - International Partnerships
